Chair of the Board, Jill Lieberman
A native of Montreal, Jill has been a member of Act To End Violence Against Women (formerly JWIC) for 31 years. Jill is the Chair of the first Act To End Violence Against Women Board of Directors and served as President of Act To End Violence Against Women for the 2005-07 term. Jill is a past president of Centennial Chapter in Montreal and a past president of the Montreal Council. She has held a variety of National Board positions including Eastern Area Vice-President, Montreal ASTEH chairperson and Conference chairperson.
Jill has been a Special Education teacher with the English Montreal School Board for 16 years. She served as Chairperson of the School Council and has been involved in a variety of school committees.
Marty Brent
Marty Brent is an experienced arts and culture professional with a record of service in both the not for profit and public sector. Specializing in the business of culture and community building, she has 20 years experience as a museum director, with expertise in management, operations, cultural and natural heritage stewardship, sustainability, and community engagement. She has managed provincial grants and program services, and been instrumental in policy and program development. Taking an active role for social change, she has worked in partnership with local social service providers and area networks in one of Toronto’s most challenged neighbourhoods, building community through economic development, educational initiatives, and advocacy. Marty holds a Master of Museum Studies degree from University of Toronto, a B.A. from Stanford University, and is a graduate of York University’s Voluntary Sector/Arts Management program.
Laura Martin
Laura Martin is a Marketing Communications, Publicity & Event Management professional living in Calgary, Alberta. Over the past 25 years, Laura has held Marketing positions in Boston, San Francisco and Calgary in the technology, real estate development, health care, arts and culture and social services sectors. She has also worked as a free-lance Marketing consultant with clients in the retail, technology and social services sectors. In the volunteer arena, Laura has been a marketing consultant to Jewish Family Service Calgary where she created an advertising campaign that earned a North American recognition award. Laura was a consultant in the development, launch and operation for Soup Sisters, a grassroots soup-making initiative that provides homemade soup for residents of women’s shelters across Canada. She was appointed as Calgary's representative on the Canada-Israel Partnership 2000 committee and served on the UIA Federations Canada Board, as Chair of Calgary's Israel and Overseas Committee and as a Board member for Akiva Academy in Calgary. A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Laura graduated with a BA from Brown University.
Sandra Posluns
Sandy Posluns has been an active leader in the Jewish community for more than 30 years. She served as National President of the Jewish National Fund (JNF) from 2001-2005. Prior to that, Sandy was President of JNF Toronto for three years and was a member of the JNF Toronto Board of Directors since 1984. Sandy played a leading role in the organization of the JNF Negev Dinner, JNF’s signature fundraising event, for many years. Her membership and involvement in Hadassah-Wizo spans more than 30 years. Sandy is also committed to the Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care and is on the Board of the Women’s Auxiliary. She has played an active role at Mt. Sinai Hospital, serving as a member of the Board of the Women’s Auxiliary and chairing the Mt. Sinai Ball in 1988 and 1989. Sandy has a life-long interest in the well-being of the Jewish community and Israel.
Jacqueline Rudberg
Jackie earned her Juris Doctor degree in 2000 from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan and is licensed to practice law in the State of Maryland. Originally from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, she attended the Toronto French School and speaks French fluently having participated in the International Baccalaureate Program. She is effective at evaluating and analyzing regulatory environments in French and English, including procurement regulations, commercial finance arrangements and public private partnerships in the United States, Canada, European Union and Africa.
Jackie has developed a strong background in strategic consulting with experience in project finance for infrastructure projects in emerging markets. She has been involved with deals ranging from airports, to roads, and deep-sea ports to renewable energy, all involving a high degree of risk and has developed ways to manage and mitigate that risk through using creative financial arrangements. Formally trained in litigation, she has managed a multi-million dollar commercial litigation case for a homebuilder in Toronto involved in a dispute arising out of an unsuccessful joint venture agreement. She is a member of the Executive Committee for the Toronto International Centre, a privately owned trade and consumer exhibition facility in Toronto, Canada.
Corinne Rusch-Drutz
Corinne Rusch-Drutz is the Director of Communications & Membership Development at YWCA Canada, the country's oldest and largest women's organization. There she is responsible for all communications vehicles such as the YWCA Safety Siren App, and Turning Point Programs for Women and Girls, including YWCA GirlSpace, Power of Being a Girl(tm) and Week Without Violence(tm). Prior to joining the National Office, Corinne was the Director of Advocacy & Communications at YWCA Toronto. She holds a multidisciplinary PhD in drama, women's studies, communications and public policy in the arts. She has been on faculty at York University and on staff at the University of Toronto, and has worked on a number of government initiatives, including Status of Women Canada's Equity in Canadian Theatre Study. Corinne regularly lectures on new media and communications for non-profits. She is an active member of Canadian Women in Communications.
Alanna Salpeter
Originally from Toronto, ON, Alanna has spent the majority of her adult life on the East Coast attending Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS where she completed both her Undergraduate and Law degree (with a specialization in Health Law and Policy). Prior to her study of law, Alanna earned her Masters in the Interdisciplinary program for Bioethics, Humanities and Society at Michigan State University (MSU), and spent a year teaching English in a small town in rural Japan. Having been raised with an ardent and enduring spirit of volunteerism, she has demonstrated her commitment to equality and women’s issues with her involvement in various organizations and activities including, but not limited to, MSU’s Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Centre, Sumire-Ryo Social Welfare Dormitory in Haruno, Japan, Dalhousie Legal Aid Service, and Pro Bono Students Canada. Alanna brings her extensive experience and expertise to the Act To End Violence Against Women Board of Directors to work toward achieving the important goal of ending violence against women.
Marilyn Sinclair
Marilyn Sinclair began her career as a corporate writer in 1985, working on a typewriter. With a vision to create a "one-stop writing resource," Sinclair named the company WordCheck in 1995 and added a team of writers, strategists, project managers, researchers, proofreaders and translators. WordCheck now provides proofreading, writing, editing and all-language translation services to businesses around the world.
In 1996, Marilyn identified a need for writing for the Internet. From that, iContent was created and it was soon writing the words for some of the largest Web sites in North America. Together, WordCheck/iContent is currently the largest combined writing and translation company in Canada. In 2002, Marilyn and a partner created CME Solutions Canada. In 2010, CME Solutions was acquired by one of the largest trade show companies in North America. In 2010, Marilyn created Secretariat Central which provides turnkey administrative and financial services to associations and small organizations.
Marilyn’s passion for ending violence against women and girls inspired her to create NOT ME, an organization whose mission is to promote awareness and prevention of sexual assault on campus. She believes that together we can “Blow the Whistle on Sexual Assault on Campus.” Marilyn is also passionate about Holocaust education and is on the Strategic Planning Committee of the Neuberger Holocaust Education Centre. Marilyn holds a B.Sc. and an M.B.A. and has been featured in numerous publications. A contest-winning Toastmaster, she has been a speaker at many conferences across Canada. In 2008, Sinclair was named one of Canada’s top 100 women entrepreneurs by Profit magazine.
Carole Tanenbaum
Carole Tanenbaum is a New York City-born Toronto-based vintage jewellery collector. She launched her costume jewellery business more than 20 years ago. Today, Carole Tanenbaum Vintage Collection is sold in over 43 stores worldwide including her flagship store Holt Renfrew. Carole and her husband’s Howard philanthropic efforts support a variety of causes and she has always been passionate about raising awareness for women suffering from crisis in their lives.
