Privacy Policy

 

The Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) governs the collection, use and disclosure of personal information and applies to all businesses and organizations as of January 1, 2004. This policy establishes compliance with the act by Act To End Violence Against Women.  In this privacy statement, the terms ‘Organization”, “we” and “our” refer to Act To End Violence Against Women and registered volunteers, non-members and donors.

 

Collection of Personal Information

 

Act To End Violence Against Women collects and uses personal information for the purposes reasonably required in order for it to carry out day-to-day operations. The Organization collects information (name, address, telephone number, fax number, e-mail address and credit card number) provided by you in order to maintain an effective communication data base and when you request information sent to you, become a member, place orders for any of the Organization’s donation options or events. We may also ask you for a limited amount of personal information such as age and profession.  We do not, as a condition of any request you make, require you to consent to the collection, use or disclosure of information beyond that required to fulfil the explicitly specified and legitimate purposes for which the information is being provided.

 

The form of consent that we seek, whether it be expressed or implied, will largely depend on the sensitivity of the personal information and the reasonable expectations of the individual in the circumstances. You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. If you wish to withdraw your consent at any time, please contact the Privacy Officer.

 

Use and Disclosure of Personal Information

 

The Act To End Violence Against Women Statement of Policy states: ‘Mailing lists of Act To End Violence Against Women shall remain the property of the Organization and shall not be given out for any purpose whatsoever.’ Therefore the Organization has not in the past, nor will it in the future, sell, rent or trade its membership/donor information to or with others.

      

The personal information that we collect or have collected in the past from you will continue to be used by the Organization to provide the services or carry out the transaction that you requested or authorized. This may include using your personal information for the following purposes:

  • Monitoring your membership status and providing you with membership services which include sending you newsletters and information about upcoming events;
  • Sending you products or information that you have requested from us:
  • Billing you for membership, donations and/or special events that you have subscribed to; and
  • Doing all the things necessary to administer your requested services, develop and maintain our relationship with you and communicate with you.

 

From time to time, we may share your non-sensitive information (such as name, address, e-mail address) with third party service providers, namely a mail house to assist us in providing service to you or to carry out one of the services described above. These service providers are prohibited from using your personal information for any purpose other than to provide this assistance and are required to protect personal information disclosed by the Organization and to comply with the general privacy principles outlined in this Privacy Statement.

 

Protection and Retention of Personal Information

 

The Organization makes all commercially reasonable efforts to ensure that personal information collected from you is protected against loss and unauthorized access. Access to your personal information is restricted to selected employees or representatives. In addition, the Organization employs generally accepted information security techniques to protect personal information against loss and unauthorized access.

 

Access to Information and Complaints/Withdrawing Consent

 

You may contact the Organization at any time to request the following:

1.      That we remove you from the Organization’s mailing list

2.      That you have access to the personal information that the Organization has on file for you

3.      That the Organization change or update the personal information that it has on file for you

4.      If you have any reason to believe that the Organization may have failed to adhere to this Privacy Statement

5.      If you have any questions about the Privacy Statement
