June 2012 marked the opening of the first Turning the Page library in Montreal at Auberge Transition. It was a very emotional and exciting experience seeing our dreams become reality. The bright colours, the multitude of books for all ages, the toys, the fun carpet on the floor, the computer station, the table and& chairs, rocking chair–you – you can just picture the children lying on the floor, hanging out at the computer, playing with the toys, cuddling with their moms reading a favourite book. One of the women who was living in the shelter with her young daughter thanked Act To End Violence Against Women for establishing Turning the Page saying ‘It is a warm and wonderful place in the shelter for moms and their kids. All of the kids are really excited about it – thank you’.
